Censor Board Refuses To Grant ‘Rajneeti’ A Certificate

Filmmaker Prakash Jha is nonplussed by the Censor Board’s refusal to grant his political drama ‘Rajneeti’ a certificate, as he says that the film has nothing to do with real life politics or politicians.

Jha said that the Censor Board, which viewed the film on Wednesday, has referred it to a Revising Committee before a final call is taken.

“I have just made a film about an election. It is not about Bihar or Sonia Gandhi or the Congress, so I don’t understand the whole controversy,” said Jha who was in the city to promote the film which he has labelled a “modern day Mahabharata”.  Actor Ranbir Kapoor seconded the director saying that the film is not half as controversial as it is being made out to be.

“There is no controversial content in the film and it’s fictional,” said the actor.

Jha says that contrary to popular belief the film is not a “preachy drama” which slings mud on politics.

Earlier the cast and crew of the film were denied permission by the police to hold a promotional event at Delhi University, after having been given permission by the college authorities.

The film starring Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn, Ranbir Kapoor, Nana Patekar and Manoj Bajpai, is set to hit theatres on June 4, but the censor’s stand may jeopardize the release.

‘Rajneeti’ is his costliest project till date and he hopes that the film will succeed despite the controversies.

“When a film works then it benefits everybody. There are good actors in the film so it is natural that people have high expectations from it,” he said
