18-yr-old girl commits suicide

CHANDIGARH: An 18-year-old civil engineering student from a Baddi-based institute committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Sector

42 on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Mirnal Sharma. Elder daughter of a deputy manger with State Bank of India?s Sector-17 branch, she was said to be a bright student who usually kept to herself.

Her family belongs to Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh.

Police sources said they were probing the matter and trying to ascertain the reason behind her taking the extreme step. Cops also said that some of her colleagues claimed she was under depression.

Meanwhile, the body was handed over to her family members after a postmortem examination at GMH-16. The police have initiated inquest proceedings.
